Hair loss is often a much greater burden for women than for men because thick, long hair is a global beauty standard for women.

The most common causes of hair loss in women are stress, hormonal fluctuations, iron deficiency, metabolic disorders, diseases of the thyroid gland, poor eating habits and hereditary factors.

The Ludwig scale is used to categorize hair loss in women. In this case, hair loss is divided into three stages and then the requirement for autologous hair transplantation (hair transplantation using the patient’s own hair) is precisely determined based on the categorization.

Most often, the cause of hair loss is female androgenetic alopecia (female-pattern baldness). Hair loss in women mainly occurs in the area of the forehead, the parting and the top of the head.

The Ludwig scale

I: The hair is thinned out, hair volume decreases.
II: There is hair loss along the parting.
III: The scalp is visible underneath, and there are some bald patches.
