Hair analysis–TrichoScan

Before considering hair transplantation, one of the things that should be assessed is the current condition of the hair. To do this, we use the photometric hair analysis method TrichoScan.

TrichoScan is a computer-assisted method for determining hair density and hair follicle status. It is ideal for monitoring the progress of patients with hair loss and for monitoring success during treatment. This is especially important because any treatment for hair loss takes a long period of time and the success of the treatment is usually only visible after a few months.

During analysis using TrichoScan HD, a small area is first shaved to create a clear area of scalp. This will be almost invisible to other people afterward when the hair from the surrounding area is combed over it. The shaved area is then stained and photographed using a special high-resolution camera. The TrichoScan software evaluates the images and automatically determines the key parameters of hair growth. Because it determines hair density, number of hairs and also the number of terminal and vellus hairs, it is an excellent way of monitoring the progress and success of treatment. If the telogen ratio (the proportion of hairs that are in the fall-out phase) needs to be determined, the staining and measuring of the hair is only done three days after shaving. After several months, the recording procedure is repeated to compare the results. This makes it possible to monitor and objectively evaluate the success of hair loss treatment. The advantage of this method is that the images are easy and fast to capture, the procedure is painless, and the results can be reproduced and archived.
